Many people think that being single on Valentines Day is not fun. They think about how lonely it must be. This is especially the case if you are newly single. However, the truth of the matter is that being single on Valentine’s Day is actually amazing. On Valentines Day, you have to think about a lot of different things. For instance, you have to think of getting that special someone in your life a gift. If you are single, you don’t need to worry about it. In fact, you can get yourself a gift if you want to. Plus, you don’t need to worry about putting a bunch of plans together. Plus, being single on Valentines Day frees up all the pressure to go out and do something fun. If you have a significant other, it is up to you to pull out all the stops and do something fun and exciting. What happens if you mess up? What happens if your plans don’t meet that person’s standards? There is usually a fight that ensues, you spend too much money on dinner and then you go home feeling bitter.

Here are some reasons why it’s actually great to be alone on Valentine’s Day.

being single on Valentine's Day

1. It’s not as lonely as you think.

The truth of the matter is that all that pressure can be lonely. If your date is expecting you to wow, it can really feel lonely to be put in that position. When you are single on Valentines Day, you don’t need to feel that pressure. Having that freedom can be the opposite of loneliness if you think about it. In reality, the world is yours and you can do whatever you want.

2. You have lots of choices.

Speaking of being able to do whatever you want, on Valentines Day, you can pretty much come up with your own fun ideas. Instead of going on a date, you can pretty much get random and come up with your own idea of a fun night, whatever that may be. When you have a date, you usually have to bend to whatever they want to do and you really have no choices.

3. The world is yours and you can go anywhere.

Indeed, when you are single on Valentine’s Day, you can go anywhere and do anything. If you want to fly somewhere and have a little solo vacation, you can do that. If you want to go out with an ex, you can do that. If you want to be alone, you can do that too. When it comes down to it, being single on Valentine’s Day allows you to be a master of your own destiny.

4. There’s the option of staying in alone.

When it comes to being single on Valentine’s Day, you may want to stay in. If you are a homebody to begin with, going out on that day may have been a chore. Not that you are single, you can actually stay in and not feel guilty. You can even take it a step further, purchase some ice cream and watch a movie. How beautiful is that?

5. Many single people go to single’s events.

Another great thing about being single on Valentine’s Day is that you get to go to singles events and pick up other singles. Indeed, going to a singles event is like going to the market. When you go, you want to be sure that you aren’t too hungry. However, you do want to come home with someone, so you should work up a little appetite. Of course, you don’t want to be desperate, but you do want to open yourself up to new experiences.

6. There is no worrying about jealousy.

Another great thing about being single on the most romantic day and night of the year is that you don’t need to worry about jealousy. Many relationships are rife with jealously, which can add a fog of frustration to everything – even a night as fun as Valentines Day. Sure, there may be Valentines Day candies and greeting cards with proclamations of love, but you then have the argument when you get home, which is never any fun. When you are single, you don’t have to worry about this argument and you can go to sleep with a big smile on your face, knowing that there are other couples out there chewing each other out.

7. You don’t have to purchase a gift for anyone.

Of course, being single on Valentines Day will also save you a little bit of money. This is because you don’t need to purchase gifts for anyone. One of the most frustrating things about this “special day” is that you have go out and find a meaningful gift, which is never any fun.

8. Your friends can become your dates.

If you have other single friends, you can call them up and have fun with them on Valentine’s Day. There is a good chance that all your single friends are looking for something fun to do, so why no call them up on Valentines Day and come up with something interesting and fun to do. You could go paintballing, you could go to the movies, or you can head out of town for a weekend ski trip before all the snow melts.

9. Sometimes it can be fun to go on a solo date.

If you are feeling brave enough, you could make a reservation for one on Valentines Day at your favorite restaurant. Sure, you may be dealing with a lot of couples holding hands and being romantic, but you also have your freedom and a solo dinner won’t cost you a fortune. Plus, it can be kind of fun to go to a restaurant from the observer’s point of view.

10. Your phone never stops ringing.

On top of everything, when you are single on Valentines Day, your phone will never stop ringing. This can be one of the biggest benefits, because you really will be able to have your pick. In the end, being single on Valentines Day is your chance to be as wild as you want.

  • I used to spend every Valentine’s Day with my best friend watching action movies. We had so much fun eating chocolate, pizza, and taking silly photos together. We hosted sleepovers with our group of friends and gave each other silly cards. It was such a fun time and none of us missed having boyfriends. Once you get in a relationship or married, those memories are really nice to think about and I treasure them. Also, you can eat chocolate without having to share!

I’m surprised by this post. I’m from the UK where Valentine’s Day really isn’t a big deal and I don’t think anyone that is single will really care or notice. In the UK restaurants are super expensive on Valentine’s Day and people tend to think of the day as just a bit of fun. Of course, if you are in a place where it’s a big deal then your post is great. Interestingly enough, it’s the sort of advice British magazines give out to singletons at Christmas.

I think being single is one of the coolest ways to celebrate valentines day. You can do lots of crazy stuff that you won’t do with your partner around ;-). Any ways you are gonna celebrate it with your partner sooner or later. So singles valentines day should be a special one.

I believe that being single is awesome! I can do a lot of things without hesitation and worry. After overcoming a toxic relationship, I can’t say that being single is a blessing.

I’m planning to watch 3 movies this coming valentines day.
